Details: Teen Court is in need of TEEN volunteers to help facilitate Teen Court. Teen Court is a diversion program designed for juvenile offenders to teach them about the justice system and the consequences of their actions before they become a part of the traditional justice system. Teen Court is an actual sentencing hearing for 12-17 year olds who have already admitted guilt in the crime they committed. Teen Court also provides a place for teens to volunteer. The Student Advisory Board (STAB) is made up of students from around the community that volunteer their time to play roles found in the traditional court system. Teen Court’s Student Advisory Board (STAB) provides volunteers with education, training, and hands-on participation in the juvenile justice system. This experience enhances formal education in government, promotes respect for the law and encourages volunteering in the community. Positions in the court room: Bailiff: maintains order in the courtroom, calls court to order, guards the jury Clerk: Assists with sign-in process, calls cases, swears in offenders, reads Jury Findings Report Jury foreperson: Leads deliberations, fills out the Jury Findings Report Form. Volunteers also serve on juries to constructively sentence the offenders and hold them accountable to the community for their actions. Defense Attorney: represents offender, presents evidence, questions witnesses** Prosecuting attorney: Represents the state’s position against offender, presents evidence, questions witnesses** **Requires additional training Teen Court is held at the South Side Community Center every Tuesday evening from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (with the exception of the first Tuesday of the month). Details: Volunteers Needed! Head Start is in need of volunteers for a number of tasks including: working in the classrooms with children, helping with office/clerical duties, after school programming (parent/child activities and parent meetings), help with facility needs (cleaning and organizing), help sorting donations and preparing activities for meetings. Volunteers must be friendly, a great team player and someone who loves to work with children. Volunteer times are 9:00am - 11:30am and 2:00pm - 4:30pm Monday through Friday (some evening activities are available). 8/14/08-Welcome New BCW Case Manager: The Community and Family Resource Center would like to welcome Joni Taylor, a new Case Manager for the Babies Can’t Wait Program. The Babies Can’t Wait program is an intensive case management program designed to break the cycle of addiction in parents and to facilitate the bond between child and parent during early childhood development. Joni Taylor has case management experience and has been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) in Idaho. She has spent some time in Ecuador and speaks fluent Spanish. Joni is a welcomed addition to the Babies Can’t Wait program.
8/8/08-IFCU "Fill the Bus" for Head Start: It is back to school time already! IFCU has teamed up with Head Start to "Fill the Bus" with school supplies needed in the Head Start classrooms. Stop by any IFCU today to drop off your donation. Boxes will be picked up on August 15th. Thank you for your support!
